Writing Process

bullet

Prewriting   During this stage you will plan what you are going to write.  You will select a topic, identify an audience, brainstorm ideas, gather and organize information and set a purpose.  We suggest using a Thinking Map to organize your thoughts.

bullet

Drafting    You will now take your information and write it out in sentences and paragraphs.  Follow your prewriting Thinking Map to write your first draft.

bullet

Revising    This is the first step in editing your writing.  You may work alone or with another person.  Here you will be making changes that will improve your writing.  For example, you may move sentences for organization and flow; you may change weak verbs into stronger ones; etc.

bullet

Editing/Proofreading   Now you’re ready to polish your work.  In this step you will check for errors in grammar, spelling, capitalization, and punctuation.

bullet

Publishing/Presenting   Make a final copy of your writing.  Follow teacher guidelines carefully when writing the final.
