Planners
What is the Agenda Planner?
Each year Quincy Community Schools
purchases Agenda Planners for each student in our district. Agenda
Planners should be used just like adults use planners in their daily
lives. The planner provides this format for students. Students
should write down homework assignments on the date due, personal
appointments, and other commitments they need to remember. Then,
students must check their planners often.
At Quincy Middle School, we are
committed to the belief that students desire to be successful. This
year, the middle school staff is dedicated to providing the needed
tools to help students to plan for success, organize their day, meet
homework obligations, and turn in completed work in a timely manner.
What can you expect from our
teachers?
Sixth Grade
For sixth grade students, teachers
will model correct planner usage everyday using a replica of a page
out of the student planner. Teachers will allow for time at the end
of the day during the last block of the day or the last academic block
before going to Band or PE for students to look at their planner, know
what they need to bring home, and be ready to pack their bags. Staff
will provide detailed instruction as to what to write and on what date
in their planners. Although we will continue this "modeling" for the
entire year, as the year progresses our involvement in detailed
instruction will be less and place more of the responsibility on the
students. Teachers often use planners as a way to communicate with
parents.
Seventh Grade
For seventh grade students,
teachers will model correct planner usage for the first semester.
Within the classroom setting, many teachers will use some of the ideas
presently used for the sixth graders.
Eighth Grade
For eighth grade students, planner
usage will be modeled for the first marking period of the school year.
What is the student's role in
successful planner usage?
This curriculum, developed by QMS
is designed to assist students to effectively use the planners.
Although a great emphasis is place on teacher assisted modeling in the
6th grade, as students progress through the middle school, it is
important that students begin to take responsibility for correct
planner usage.
Students are expected to...
Bring their planners to all
classes.
Write in their planners
assignments due on the date due.
Check their planners at the end
of the day
Take their planners home.
Complete assignments and turn
assignments in!!!
How can parents assist the student
to become organized and use the planner correctly?
Parents play an important role in
the educational process of their child. Be involved in your child's
education. The following suggestions will help you as you assist your
child to correctly use his/her planner.
Establish a daily routine around
checking the planner.
Expect that your student brings
home his/her planner everyday and shares information with you.
Ask you student to explain what
he/she has written in the planner
If you use a planner/calendar,
share your personal planner with your child and explain how using
planners assists you in your career.
Help you student to look ahead in
the planner for reminders regarding what is coming up and due.
