Every day 3,000 new smokers under the age of 19 start smoking, and an additional 15.5 million kids are exposed to second hand smoke each day. When you stop and think about what is in every cigarette you wonder why anyone would even want to smoke. Cigarette smoke contains over 3,000 chemicals including: Acetone (nail polish remover), Hydrogen Cyanide (rat poison), Nicotine (cockroach killer), Hydrazine (rocket fuel), and Formaldehyde (embalming fluid).” “All of the drug abuse information which we have shared with you over the past week came from the American Council for Drug Information (ACDE) web site. Tuesday, May 1, 2007 FCS: FCS will be held at lunch time in Mr. Leonard's room today. Please bring your lunch and join the fun. DRUG ABUSE: Drug Abuse, know the signs, know the dangers. Marijuana is a drug about which there is a great deal of incorrect information in the public mind. Marijuana is a very dangerous drug and many recent studies have shown that it affects the brain in ways not known even a decade ago. A 1995 study of marijuana users showed that their ability to focus, sustain attention, and organize data was affected for as long as 24 hours after use of the drug. The impact on the body from marijuana use can be long term and in many cases permanent. Consistent use of marijuana has been shown to make the abuser prey to chest colds, bronchitis, and even asthma. Smoking a single marijuana joint exposes the user to the same amount of cancer causing agents as smoking 5 cigarettes.
